Jiangsu launches pilot program of full coverage of native plant species in East China
Institute of Botany, Jiangsu Province and Chinese Academy of Sciences, also called Nanjing Botanical Garden Mem. Sun Yat-Sen, has first launched the ceremony of the pilot program for full coverage of native plant species conservation in East China.
The native plant species in Jiangsu Province have long suffered human disturbance, which has an adverse impact on plants’ number and resources. “It will be conducive not only to sort them out, but also to enhance the competence of botanical gardens in protection.” said Zhuang Yule, director of the garden and vice chairman of CUBG.
Dr. Liu Qixin, curator of the garden’s herbarium, who is also in charge of this sub-project, outlined the work plan. “The crucial part is to make the assessment for plant conservation status.” he said. Besides, he advised to develop reintroduction on some targeted species based on recent survey.
Next, they will list the plant directory in Jiangsu Province and invite the experts, who know all about the present state of plant species and classification in this area, for the assessment.
