Turpan gathered educators to discuss how to plan and design interpretation system
Environmental educators and experts in botanical gardens gathered in Turpan from 5 to 8 this month to discuss together how to plan and design interpretation system.
CUBG’s training program, which includes three branded training courses, as well as this new set up X-Series, has become the important platform for botanical gardens to communicate. This X-Series training courses, sponsored by CUBG and organized by applying botanical gardens, consist of several different interesting special subjects on the required skills of botanical garden’s development and management.
Turpan Desert Botanical Garden, the lowest in China, was selected as the first station of this X-Series training. The interpretation system, which makes botanical gardens differ from gardens, helps botanical garden to play its role in education, however, many in China hasn’t realized it. 27 participants from Chinese botanical gardens attended this course.
This training course has been designed to combine case sharing and group practices with topic lectures, such as the establishment of botanical garden’s interpretation system, comparison research on domestic and foreign scenic interpretation system, case analyses and function analyses of interpretive panels.
Some fresh new concepts, especially the use of environmental education in botanical gardens, will become the way to enlighten the participants. said Dr. Wang Ximin, deputy director of Science Communication and Training Department, XTBG, which is leading the pack in botanical garden’s environmental education.
By observed of the characteristics of Turpan Desert Botanical Garden, the trainees were divided into four groups to design the interpretive panels. Dr. Chen Jin, Director of XTBG and CUBG joined their warmly discussion and gave pertinent comments.
X-Series of CUBG training program will be launching professional and useful training courses in the next months.
