Native Plant Investigation and Conservation Continues in Eastern China

On the base of the last three-year field work, Nanjing Botanical Garden Mem. Sun Yat-Sen (NBG) will further push forward the full conservation of the native plants in East China.

“39 endangered species were introduced successively during the field survey, among which four species have flowered and fruited successfully.” Prof. ZHUANG Yule, the team leader of this program in the first phase, concluded. “It helps our garden to build a series of technical index in wild introduction and cultivation, as well as profiles of the species.”

Among the total number of the targeted species, the number of data deficient species was down by 12.51%. “The conservation capacity of our native plants has improved.” Prof. LIU Qixin, technical leader of the program, said.

During the second phase, NBG will do more effort on program management, science popularization, cooperation in province and support of governments, as well as continue to work as required. “It will be needed to discuss and report the progress.” Prof. XUE Jianhui, the director of NGB, the team leader of the second phase, finally stressed.
