Discussion on Conservation Methods for Native Plants in South China
Workshop on the project “Inventory and Conservation of Native Plants in Guangdong Province” was held in Dinghu Mountain National Nature Reserve on September 12 to 13.
Prof. Wang Ruijiang, from South China Botanical Garden (SCBG), first introduced the background、contents and requirements of the project. After the discussion, it will have a comprehensive assessment on native plant threatened level, according to IUCN Red List, and Guangdong key protected wild plants will be listed, as well as conservation research and public environmental education following.
Ren Hai, Director of SCBG, gives great supports and advises throughout the project preparation from staff organization to project operation. He also emphasized the international and social responsibilities of botanical gardens during the workshop.
“Besides, it will help to cultivate our own taxonomy talents during the acts of this project.” Prof.Hu Huabin, CUBG Secretary-General, stated the main aim of the project.
Then, the project team will organize the expert rapid assessment in October.
